Parents or guardians;
Schools will not open for instruction on Tuesday, Sept 2nd. We believe that teachers will not report for work and the strike will continue. Unfortunately the negotiators for the BCTF and the BCPSEA could not reach a negotiated settlement over the weekend. The parties met with the assistance of Vince Ready and while he determined that the parties are too far apart he remains in contact with them. Student safety continues to be our highest priority and we do not have the capacity to supervise large numbers of students not to offer educational programs. We respectfully ask that parents do not bring children to schools on Tuesday and for the duration of the strike. Most daycares will be open and we advise parents will be allowed to cross picket lines to escort their children to daycares and pre-schools. Please contact your provider to review opening and closing times and procedures. Please continue to monitor our website at www.sd43.bc.ca for any news or updated information regarding the strike. Sincerely Thomas Grant Superintendent of Schools One of our Walton parents, Calin Lucus, is organizing an open letter to the government and BCTF regarding the teachers' job action and the impact it has on our children and their education.
If you would like to take part or endorse this letter, please contact Calin at calinlucus@gmail.com For more information about the teacher job action, you may wish to refer to the following websites: Coquitlam Teachers' Association (CTA) www.coquitlamteachers.com British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) www.bctf.ca BC Public Employees Association (BCPSEA) www.bcpsea.bc.ca BC Ministry of Education www.gov.bc.ca Thank you so much for your generous gift from the Walton PAC. I was very touched by the gift and the lovely sentiment in the card. It was an honour and a pleasure to work at Walton for the past couple of years. The school community is wonderful, and the dedicated, involved parent group is second to none!
I will certainly cherish many wonderful memories getting to know you and your children. Alas ... my Mandarin is already getting rusty!! My very best wishes to you and your families! Kate McMeiken Acting Principal Mountain Meadows Elementary 999 Noons Creek Drive Port Moody, BC V3H 4N3 |
